Opći opis
The potentiostat is a device for precise maintenance of electrode potential between working electrode (metal sample) and solution (reference electrode immersed in a solution). By the electrochemical methods of polarization resistance, open circuit current potential, cyclic polarization, Tafel’s extrapolation, cyclic voltammetry, corrosion parameters are obtained indicating the resistance of a metal or alloy to a certain type of corrosion (general, local, atmospheric, contact, etc.).
The corrosion resistance can also be evaluated by the method of Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS), which is based on the AC power and circuit current response to the AC voltage or the AC current as an AC frequency function. The EIS provides
valuable informations such as electrolyte resistance, double layer thickness, charge transfer resistance at the solution/electrode phase boundary, constant phase element of
double-layer associated with adsorption, desorption, diffusion, etc.
This device enables the determination of hydrogen uptake and transfer in metals by electrochemical technique, thus obtaining important diffusion parameters based on which the resistance of metals and their alloys to the appearance of hydrogen embrittlement is estimated.Uža područja primjene
